Re: WRs who could/should have won MVP

The 1987 MVP race was a classic case of the Ross Perot effect. Jerry Rice and Joe Montana were so outstanding that voters didn't know which one to give the award to. They got 48 combined votes, whereas John Elway got the remaining 36. Rice, who set the NFL record for receiving TDs in a season despi...

Re: 2023 Obituaries

Shoutout to former Titans/Oilers tight end Frank Wycheck. One of the most underrated tight ends in NFL history. Sucks for his family, and fans that his story had to end this way. I knew he was sick for a while, and tried to keep tabs on him with any news updates that would pop up from time to time. ...

Re: 104th season, Week 13 recap

The 42-19 thrashing the 49ers put on the Eagles was one of the most satisfying wins the 49ers orchestrated in franchise history considering the circumstances. Once the 49ers got their first 1st down, the game was basically over. 6 straight TD drives. And 5 of those 6 drives took at least 70 yards. 4...

Re: 1994 Steelers vs. 1997 Steelers

Not a Steelers fan, but the '94 Steelers by a landslide. Probably Cower's best team that didn't win anything, and maybe even better than the one that did win it all in 2005 if you look at papermetrics. I think it's still the highest DVOA of any team that Cower coached. The choke against the Chargers...

Re: Tom Brookshier RIP

Hot take, but I actually preferred Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshier over Pat Summerall, and John Madden. Not to say that I hated Madden. Just liked Brookshier's style a bit more. Madden's sometimes was overbearing, especially as time went on.

Re: 1985 49ers

What went wrong for SF in 1985? Again when you go from #1 scoring defense to #2 that shouldn’t mean a 5 win dropoff! They had some very uncharacteristic early season losses. Opening week to Minnesota where they turned it over like 7 or 8 times. A 3 point loss to a bad Saints team and a 2 point loss...

Re: 1985 49ers

I don't think San Fran does any better at Soldier than the G-men themselves did had they actually played them instead in the '85 divisional round. Okay, maybe they, at least, score on them! Ten points or less; but a shutout as well still likely. No real difference otherwise. And even without McMaho...

Re: NFL Throwback channel ranking every NFL team by QB histo

Good idea, though unsurprisingly teams with a couple of HOFers will be favored over teams with more consistent play but less peak talent. I would have put the Seahawks higher, they've often had above average QBs. Bears need to be dead last. That was my thought as well when I first stumbled upon the...

NFL Throwback channel ranking every NFL team by QB history

Pretty long production, but interesting I think if one has the time. I mostly agree with the rankings.

Re: Pro Football Focus talk: Adding past icons to current te

FInished watching the rest. Some of their picks kind of odd, but still, that's just opinion. People can disagree. Though they were off on some facts and pronunciations I was kind of encouraged to see younger guys looking back into history, to the extent that the 80s-00s are history. Maybe it could ...
