Re: The Condoleezza Rice rumor

Haslam might be thinking that if a game show host can become president, then how big a leap is it for a former Secretary of State to be a head coach?

That, at least, would be consistent with most of the rest of the thinking he's demonstrated since taking over the team.

Re: What are some memorable hold outs and the cause behind t

It's the quarterback tender. The section reads: "the average of the five largest Prior Year Salaries for players at the position... with the highest such average;" As Conace21 says, not his position, the position with the highest average. It continues with a helpful example: "By way o...

Re: Manning Brady

Brady had one head coach and one owner his entire career. Manning had five head coaches in his career and went to the Super Bowl with four of them. The fact that Tom Moore was retained only reinforces the fact that Manning has significantly more power in the organization. Manning may have been a sy...

Re: Manning Brady

Wins and losses don't tell you anything. The 1990 49ers went from 14-2 to 10-6 when they lost Joe Montana. The 2006 Bears went from 13-3 to 7-9 when they lost Rex Grossman. Does that make Rex Grossman a better quarterback than Joe Montana? Backups matter. Matt Cassel had the benefit of being in the...

Re: Manning Brady

One interesting point I read that favors Manning. Brady is just more of a cog in the Patriots machine. Now, that's not to say that just anyone could step in and have the same success he's has, especially at age 41. But Belichick runs the Patriots, and Brady just fills a role. Now, he works extremel...

Re: Manning Brady

I'm a Brady fan, but I think we underestimate the amount of just pure luck that goes into determining a young QB's fate. Belichick decided to keep four QBs on the roster in 2000. The Patriots were one of the only teams in the league to do so that year. What happens if he doesn't do that? Marc Bulger...

Re: Merton Hanks, HOVG?

Again, sorry for the hand-wringing. But I'll take that over ignorance anyday This is worth a separate reply. People use these terms as a means of communication, a shorthand. It is not, generally, intended to be the start of an extended debate or conversation. "3/6/60's" gives you an encap...

Re: Merton Hanks, HOVG?

John, come on. Virtually every post on this site uses AP and AP only. If I cared, I could quote a hundred posts in a couple of minutes that list "2/6/70's" or whatever. The "2" is straight from PFR, and it's AP. I have never seen anyone on this site argue, in any context, "J...

Re: Merton Hanks, HOVG?

I do not know where the four consecutive All-Pro's came from? Wikipedia. There's always some All Pro team out there somewhere for everybody who had a good year. In 1994 he was Sporting News First Team, according to PFR. But there's always, like, the San Jose Mercury News All Pro Team, and other &qu...
