Re: Kirk Cousins (R.I.P. Vikings career?) - How did he do?

how long has it been since the Vikings drafted a QB in the top 5, ever ? The closest is Culpepper, who was the 11th overall pick. Tarkenton was a third round pick, but technically, University of Wisconsin quarterback Dale Hackbart was the first-ever draft choice for Minnesota. What? Hackbart? Didn'...

Re: Kirk Cousins (R.I.P. Vikings career?) - How did he do?

With Cousins now going to the Falcons, the Vikings have their chance to develop someone from the draft but who will they go after? Well, we got our answer yesterday with the signing of Sam Darnold to the Vikings. They signed him to a one-year, $10 million contract, which I'm told is the cap-percent...

In 1935 in Canadian pro football, the Winnipeg team's main passing back was a guy named Bob Fritz. He was the coach and captain and he was ambidextrous.

The end of dynasties in the NFC?

I heard today on the Locked On Vikings podcast that in the NFC, 64 of the 88 division winners over the past 22 seasons (since the last NFL realignment) were not repeat winners from the year before. Green Bay had 7 of the 24 repeats under Favre then Rodgers. In the AFC, New England with Brady dominat...

Football insurance?

In 1920, the Virginia, Minnesota, city council tried to secure insurance for the city semi-pro football team, but they couldn't find any company that would insure the players. Are there any early examples where a team did secure insurance for the players? I do know that the Minneapolis Marines, for ...

Re: Kirk Cousins (R.I.P. Vikings career?) - How did he do?

It will really depend on who O'Connell prefers, Dobbs or Mullens if Cousins isnt re-signed ... As a longtime Vikings fan, it seems that sticking with Dobbs or Mullens would not be a very likely scenario. It doesn't matter who is owner, general manager, or coach, Vikings fans demand to see at least ...

Re: Kirk Cousins (R.I.P. Vikings career?) - How did he do?

As for the Vikings, they would probably bring Cousins back unless they could trade up to get who they want in the draft or free agency, but we will see. Dobbs fumbled alot but has potential, while Mullens/Hall went 1-4 as starters. Will those three get another chance? I predict Cousins will come ba...

Re: The five "best" books about pro football history

I would argue that Pigskin: The Early Years of Pro Football by Robert W. Peterson might be a good replacement for Christl's team-specific Packers book. Also, I have run into multiple errors related to the Minneapolis Marines and the Rock Island Independents in a couple of chapters in The Sunday Game...

Re: What happened to Pro Football Archives?

Didn't know it was gone. What a loss. They had things Pro Football Reference didn't. And things Pro Football Database didn't. Hope it is temporary ... it was extremely useful. I agree. It had CFL, WFL, USFL, NFL Europe and even 60's minor league stats. It was one of my favorite research tools. I ho...
