Re: Boomer?
I recall that Cincinnati wanted to keep Boomer in 1998, but they lowballed him, and he accepted the MNF gig instead. I remember his quote - it was something like, “Why would I take that offer when I can go to TV and make a million dollars a year?” Then the TV guys were laughing at him for thinking ...

Re: Boomer?
If you look at his yearly rank in a stat like ANY/A, he had a five year stretch (85-89) that was 2nd-2nd-14th-1st-4th, which is really good. John Elway never had a five-year stretch anywhere close to that good. Moon had a string of 2-5-3-10-6, Jim Kelly was 11-6-2-3-7-11 over a six year span. But th...

Re: new quarterbacks for 2018
1994. Warren Moon left Houston for Minnesota. Jeff George left Indy for Atlanta. Jim Everett left the Rams for New Orleans. Dave Brown took over for Phil Simms with the Giants. Chris Miller left Atlanta for the Rams. Jeff Blake went to Cincinnati from wherever, taking over from David Klingler. Washi...

How many linebackers are in the Hall of Fame?
So somebody asked on Quora recently which position has the most enshrinees in the Hall of Fame, and the answer would seem to be running back, by a wide margin. But I got to wondering how many linebackers there are. Specifically, how do we count the two-way players who have gone in as a C/G/T, but pl...

Re: Changing postions. Suh to Rams (maybe) to 3-4 def
Bobby Mitchell - he was even "more" of a back than Taylor, then became a featured receiver when he went to the Redskins. Taylor caught a lot of passes as a back, Eric Metcalf same thing, so the move to receiver probably wasn't quite as drastic for them as for Mitchell.

Re: Best-ever players, post-merger, to never make post-seaso
Nnamdi Asomugha. He was with the 49ers to start 2013, but was cut halfway through the year, so he wasn't on the team that made the post-season.

Re: Bill Bergey
I suspect the record (such as it was) was most interceptions in a game by a linebacker. He had 2 twice, but over the last ten years or so a few LBs have had games with 3. PFR doesn't have an easy search by position by game before 1999, so I can't say for sure if there was another LB before him that ...

Re: HoF finalist list released
Owens of course had the thing in Philly where he forced the team to suspend him. But other than that, he never quit. Played at a high level right through age 37, going 72-983-9 in 14 games. Moss quit on Minnesota, he quit on Oakland, he quit on the Patriots, then he was just done at 33. Obviously Mo...

Re: HoF semifinalist list released
Ward was really filling the role of a tight end (maybe the position should be called loose end?) in those Pro Bowl years while the team was transitioning at both QB and RB. They didn’t have a pass catching TE on the roster, didn’t have much in the way of receivers after him and Burress, and of the b...

Re: Interview with Belichick
Now, I wasn't one of the ones who dumped on him after the KC loss like some people did (saying that he is washed-up). However, I didn't praise him and call him the GOAT like a lot of people have done (when they win the SB). Those SB wins could have gone the other way. Heck, they probably shouldn't ...
