Re: Ejections

Fran Tarkenton got tossed near the end of the 1974 Patriots at Vikings game after he fired the ball off the back of Ron Bolton's helmet after Fran had scored a go ahead TD. Bolton tried to clip Tark's heel as he crossed over the goal line. I can't recall if Bolton got tossed also.

Re: Kansas City vs Oakland 1968 Game 1

The reason for Hank Stram's avoidance of the pass were injuries to two of his WRs, Otis Taylor and Gloster Richardson. Stram dusted off the old Power-T formation and used 2 TEs and at times 3 RBs in a powerhouse backfield that caught the Raiders flat-footed. As a result the Chiefs won the time of po...

Re: Ejections

There is the famous fight near the end of the 1970 Raiders at Chiefs game where Ben Davidson speared Len Dawson in the back and Otis Taylor got into a wrestling match with him. Both Davidson and Taylor got tossed I believe.

Re: "Virtual" chapter of the PFRA

For people that no longer travel like myself I think this is an intriguing idea. Hope others feel the same. How many members would we need to make it viable??

Re: Most obscure player to get a Topps card

In a similar vein Eddie Hare, a punter for the Patriots in 1979 (his only season in the NFL) received a card in the 1980 Topps set. If you watched him punt you would know whey he had such a short career!

Re: Eugene Lipscomb-1st Huge and Fast Lineman

For those not familiar with the story of his death it was said that Lipscomb hated needles and never would have injected himself. It was probably done when he was unconscious. There was a story done by NFL Films I believe but I can't remember when or all the details. Yes, this would make a great fil...

Re: Latest lead taken and blown

I remember I got a chance to ask the great Lenny Moore about this game at an event many years ago. The Colts were 6-2 at midseason and everyone on the team felt they were going to three-peat. He just shook his head and told me they have should have won it that year, but this loss just seemed to take...

Re: Latest lead taken and blown

Also, what was the time left on that classic Lions/Colts game in the 60s? Lions got a long pass for a TD right after Baltimore scored. Leeny Moore caught a TD pass and then the Lions scored on a long pass to win. According to the game sheet provided by the PFRA's Gamebook section the Colts scored t...

Re: 1973 AFC playoffs had Denver won finale at Oakland?

Worked like a charm in Stanford's Rose Bowl upset of Michigan. Take chances like that and it works, you look like a genius. Fail and you're a chump. Except in this case the play call was not warranted. It was a 3rd and 10, not short yardage. Plus Denver had gained the momentum and could have put Oa...

Re: 1973 AFC playoffs had Denver won finale at Oakland?

There was a key play at the start of the 4th quarter that swung the momentum of the game after Denver had cut the lead to 14-10. Facing 3rd and 10 on their own 49-yardline, Denver coach John Ralston opted to try a fake punt on a short snap to the up-back Joe Dawkins, who was nailed for no gain. Thre...
