Re: Obscure trivia

I have the longest interception return that was not a TD NYJ safety Marcus Maye, 104 yds vs. Denver 2018. Last play of the game. He zig-zagged all over the field and was finally tackled at the 1-yd line, so he probably actually ran 150 yds. Correct and it was one hecka of a hustle play by Sutton to...

Re: Pittsburgh Steelers in 1957

Actually, Parker was tired of dealing with the team's dozen or so directors (who represented the interest of some 140 stockholders)---all of the intrigue, interference, schmoozing, etc. that went with it. He quit in a huff when he saw newly acquired Tobin Rote having drinks with Lyle Fife, who was i...

Re: "Name the Game" trivia

Just read the Phila Inquirer account of the game. Haymond's return came in the last minute. Time enough for a failed onside kick and, with 26 seconds left on the clock, a couple of dives into the line to preserve the 17-14 victory. No kneel downs back then.

Re: More fodder. . .

By 2028 there will be a squad of Marines in full combat gear assigned to protect the QB. The first volley will be aimed over the heads of onrushing linemen. The second....well, they were warned.

Ooo-rah!

Re: Tom Miner 1958

Miner left Canada after he messed up his right knee and Calgary cut him. Pittsburgh signed him with the understanding that they'd take care of the medical expenses. I believe he was the last player cut by Buddy Parker just before the '59 season started. Miner had just reinjured his knee in an exhibi...

Re: A question about evaluating quarterbacks

Reading this thread has me thinking fondly back to my old APBA playing days. Nobody rated higher than a 5 on those cards, and beery arguments with my buddy Gary over some QB (Brodie? Morrall? Hadl?) being rated a 3 one season. Played a few games while eating Cheetos. Orange thumb prints all over the...

Re: 2023/24 Super Bowl

Oh, I'm not advocating for some kind of best-of series for the NFL. For one thing, the playoffs would go on until Easter. I don't think there'd be anybody standing at the end. That said, if would be interesting to imagine the '68 Jets and Colts playing a 7-game series. I wonder how that would turn o...
