Re: 2020 Pre-conference activities

If I get there early enough on Friday, I would go into the entrance of the Stark County government offices at the old "Frank T. Bow Federal Building" at the corner of Cleveland Avenue and 2nd Street. Ralph Hay's showroom was at that location 100 years ago, and I would say that walking into...

Re: 2020 PFRA CONVENTION

Looking forward to Canton 2020 and an impressive lineup of speakers-- and I'm glad the convention will be in June. Great work, George.

Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame Digitalization Project

I'm glad to see that-- in this case, they're digitizing what's on microfilm for a starter, which is an excellent place to begin. We've all used microfilm readers. As everyone knows, you can't tell at a glance what's on a reel, nor can you quickly turn to the page you want. I only used the microfilm ...

Re: PRFA in the News: Chicago Tribune

Ron, thanks for sharing that. Basically, the article says that "In 1998, the Pro Football Researchers Association named him [Dick Barwegan] 'one of the eight great guards not in the Hall of Fame'." That was before the HOVG, so that must be a quote from Coffin Corner or a Bob Carroll statem...

Re: Coffin Corner Volume 41 Number 3

My classmates next day talked about a 'Super Bowl' along with last night's 'Battlestar Galactica' episode! The latter all I cared about; a big sci-fi fan, I was (biggest Star Wars-fan in the world). In fact, every time I heard my maternal grandfather from the living room say 'Staubach', I thought h...

Re: Coffin Corner Volume 41 Number 3

Something that's changed from a decade ago is google search results. Used to search for something and more often than not there would be a PFRA (Coffin Corner) article about it and it would be the first or one of the first results on any search engine. After we moved sites those all became broken l...

Re: Coffin Corner Volume 41 Number 3

It can't all be free. Somebody has to pony up ... human nature dictates that if you can get something for free, you won't pay for it voluntarily. And if having the CC as a download-only publication becomes a reality, I will ask for my dues back. I want my hard copy! And I have no problem with the f...

Re: Coffin Corner Volume 41 Number 3

Let me add that one of the problems that prompted going out of the read-only option was separating the true football fans from the robot-generated spammers, which increased dramatically since the start of the year, and at about the same rate as those robocalls for affordable health insurance we all ...

Re: Happy Birthday PFRA

I attended the 2008 PFRA meeting in Pittsburgh even though I was not a PFRA member, because I've always believed in the Groucho Marx quote (and still do) that I didn't want to belong to any organization that would have somebody like me as a member, but about a year later I finally gave in and joine...
