Re: St. Louis Cardinals under Jim Hanifan, 1980-thru-'85

Those Cardinals teams were always intriguing to me. A respectable team in the leagues toughest division. I picked up a Neil Lomax autobiography at last year's western NY PFRA chapter meeting book exchange.

Re: 2023 - 24 season first round playoff schedule

I know. It's bullshit. And like you, I am surprised this hasn't happened sooner. In a few years they'll be selling games by the quarter and placing Burger King ads on jerseys. https://www.yahoo.com/news/one-person-power-stop-nfl-175829943.html I'll just head to my upstairs office and tune the game ...

Re: Top 14 NFL regular season Power Rankings, 2023

1. Ravens 2. 49ers 3. Bills 4. Cowboys 5. Browns 6. Rams 7. Lions 8. Chiefs 9. Dolphins 10. Texans 11. Buccaneers 12. Packers 13. Eagles 14. Saints I think I could have put my #4 through #7 in almost any order but settled on this. I can't ignore the Eagles first 11 games body of work but their late ...

Re: The five "best" books about pro football history

The recently published The NFL Century by Joe Horrigan deserves an honorable mention for a history of the league book.. But I wouldn't put it above America's Game or Pigskin.

Also wondering when the London Playoff games will start.

No they definitely wouldn't do that. The winner of that game will get a Sunday game the following week.

Re: Disparity - 2023 Panthers

Special teams often account for big desparities in yardage vs. points. (Either offense or defense). You mentioned defensive scores given up but also return yards is probably a factor. Too lazy to look it up right now but I'm willing to bet the Panthers are near last in the league in punt/kickoff ret...

Re: Incredible officiating moment in Packers-Vikings

I saw that play too and was amazed at the non call. Sure, the Vikings player may have began the "process" of the tackle but had an ample second or so to let up after the fair catch signal. Also it's entirely possible that he didn't see the fair catch signal because his head was sort of dow...

Correct!
Ohhhh! Tricky! I was racking my brain on this one thinking of non championship 13-1 and 15-1 teams that this question would apply to and didn't even think of 1982.

question about the Rozelle rule

I was just talking with my father in law about the history of NFL free agency and the Rozelle rule came up. Many of us know that, in that era, should a team sign a free agent, the teams involved would need to negotiate fair compensation and, if they couldn't, the commissioner would decide for them. ...
