Re: Coaches who were fired after 10+ win seasons

Bum Phillips was fired after the Houston Oilers went 11-5 in 1980.

Re: 2024 Coach/Contributors semis

Mike Florio's take shows little regard for the history of the game. Parker isn't the made-for-tv candidate that he wanted. I certainly hope his opinion is in the minority with respect to those who'll be doing the voting.

Re: 2024 Coach/Contributors semis

Good thing Mike Florio didnt vote for a contributor ... Parker wouldnt have made it. He felt Shanahan, Holmgren and Kraft were more deserving, why? "Its unclear why any of them took a backseat to Parker. He didnt get in, when those from his era got in. If he didnt get in then, why is he gettin...

Re: Calvin Hill - HoVG?

Offensive Rookie-of-the-Year (1969). Four-time All-Pro selections (two first-team). Four Pro Bowls. Two 1,000-yard rushing seasons (in 14-game schedules). Played a key role in the Cowboys’ first-ever Super Bowl championship. What say the judges? As a rookie, Calvin was named 1969 Pro Football Playe...

Re: Philadelphia Eagles 1972 Real Bad

I assumed when reading this post that the 1972 Eagles would have had one of the lowest point per game averages in NFL history. However, they're not the worst. Lowest point per game averages since 1955: 1977 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 7.4 ppg. (103 points scored; shut out 6 times) 1974 Atlanta Falcons - ...

Re: Kickers Duels!

1/13/07 - AFC Divisional Playoff: Indianapolis Colts 15 @ Baltimore Ravens 6 (Adam Vinatieri vs. Matt Stover). Vinatieri is a perfect 5 for 5 and moves ahead of Gary Anderson for the most post-season field goals in NFL history.

Re: Kickers Duels!

11/14/76 - N.Y. Giants 12 vs. Washington Redskins 9 (Joe Danelo 4 vs. Mark Mosely 3). This was the first time the Giants had beaten a George Allen coached team. Allen came into the game with a 14-0 record against them as head coach. 11/5/79 - Houston Oilers 9 @ Miami Dolphins 6 (Tony Fritsch vs. Uwe...

Re: (More) Thoughts on Super Bowl V

I can't wait until someone who's had the entire game in his or her attic all this time simply gives it to the NFL and allow the whole telecast to be available. Of course the entire 4th quarter all the way to Virginia Halas giving the Trophy to the Colts in the locker room (include commercials too)....

Re: The Pressure on Place Kickers

Fraser did well enough that Jack Faulker used him to punt and "was being groomed" to kick field goals--that was at midseason 1962. I watched the 1962 Broncos highlight film on YouTube recently and was really impressed with Gene Mingo. I can see why Fraser didn't take over placekicking dut...

Re: The Pressure on Place Kickers

RIP Jim Turner Two people came into his life and helped give him a pretty good kicking career. Weeb Ewbank, who signed him as a free agent and Babe Parilli, who helped give him a great year and SB Championship in 1968 ... Being a backup QB as well as kicking, Turner could be ornery, moody, even hos...
