The 1947 Bears finished 8-4... without kicking any field goals.

I found this one hard to believe, so I looked it up ... and you're right. In fact, unless I'm misreading the tables, it looks like they didn't even ATTEMPT a field goal all season.

I know they were putting the ball in the endzone at an impressive rate in 1984, but the Dolphins only kicking 9 field goals all of 1984 seems kind of odd. 9/19 for the entire 1984 season.

von Schamann went 0/4 from 40-50 and 0-3 from 50+

only 2/5 from 30-40. His longest that year was 37 yards. Strange. Not that it hurt them during the regular season...

And for a totally out of left field tidbit. Mike Cofer of the 49ers went 7/20 on field goals between 30 and 50 yards in 1991. That's pretty atrocious for that era of kicking. They never thought to replace him? going 3/10 alone from 30-40 yards back then is pretty terrible.

The 1982 AFC Title game between the Bengals and Chargers was the first AFC title game not to feature the Dolphins, Steelers or Raiders.

The 1984 NFC Title game between the 49ers and Redskins was the first NFC title game not to feature the Cowboys, Vikings or Rams.

In a similar vein, the 1947 NFL championship game was the first that didn't include the Giants or the Redskins.

An NFL/CFL combo ...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe these are the last three drop kick attempts:

Doug Flutie (NFL) - Jan. 1, 2006 (extra point made)

Jan Carinci (CFL) - June 10, 1983 (extra point made by holder after bad snap from center) *Exhibition game Ti-Cats @ Argos

Tom Wilkinson (CFL) - September 8, 1974 (24 yard field goal attempt wide) Winnipeg @ Edmonton

I remember when Flutie made his drop kick XP that it was announced that it was the last one attempted in the NFL since Doak Walker in the 1950's, I believe.

Mike Cofer also holds the distinction of shortest FG miss in Super Bowl history, shanking a 19-yard attempt in Super Bowl 23.

The 49'ers scored exactly 49 points in a Super Bowl (SB 26).

At Super Bowl 16 in Detroit, Diana Ross sang the National Anthem, and her last namesake, Bengals TE Dan Ross scored 2 TDs in the game. (Only time that's happened)

HOF and SB-winning Head Coach Jimmy Johnson replaced 2 other HOF and SB-winning Head Coaches (Cowboys' Landry & Dolphins' Shula) as only the 2nd and 3rd-ever Head Coaches of those 2 franchises.

Head Coach Bill Austin was replaced twice on different franchises by 2 HOF & SB-winning Head Coaches (Pit-Noll & Was-Lombardi).

Bill Austin followed Lombardi in Washington after Lombardi became ill.
