Re: Willie Galimore

Thank you! My sense from reading, watching and talking to people alive then was that Galimore was discussed the way that Sayers was, but ultimately less so. It just stood out more because he came first. Like how if Bledsoe came after Brady instead of before him, he would been viewed as a letdown and...

Re: Willie Galimore

Galimore was the senior finalist in 1992 but was not elected. Very tough case because of his early death along with splitting time with Rick Casares. But Casares only played one more year with the Bears after 1963, and Galimore's touches would have gone up. We might not have drafted Sayers in '65 if...

Re: Modern Candidates HOF Preliminary List

Thanks John! Yes, I am talking about the semis era from 2004 to the present. Thanks for clarifying.

Re: Modern Candidates HOF Preliminary List

Hines Ward has 12 years remaining after this year, and joins Terrell Davis as the only players to start their eligibility with eight straight semifinalists without advancing. Every first-ballot semifinalist ever is either in Canton within 11 years or still on the ballot. By that trend, Ward would ne...

Re: Chicago Rockets,Hanley,Halas, Luckman

Hi there! Don't know if you'll see this, but the Tribune reported on January 29, 1947, that Keeshin dropped the suit after selling his interest in the Rockets. Halas's statement after Keeshin dropped the suit: "My attorneys made a motion to dismiss the complaint or Mr. Keeshin that I had libele...

Re: Time's running out for Webb, Cunningham, McDonald and others.

Hester will be elected, there is no doubt but I will always feel uneasy about a player making the HOF with only 38 career TDs, especially while Shaun Alexander has 120 counting postseason. Johnson was penalized with bad QBs and bad teams, which might be why his TD numbers were lower but some voters...

Re: Time's running out for Webb, Cunningham, McDonald and others.

This is a valid point. The Class of 2020 did potential 'irreparable' harm to the HOF in lowering the bar and putting in a bunch of guys all at once, which kind of makes the subsequent classes more 'watered-down' as a result. I'd have to see who the eligible players are at the time and then pick 5 (...

Re: Time's running out for Webb, Cunningham, McDonald and others.

Is there anyone who you would elect to Canton on the basis of their return skills? But I'll correct your faulty sentiment on Hester along with some stats. "Hester was a great punt returner and a decent kick returner" Most times leading the NFL in one of the three major KR stats: yards, ave...

Re: Time's running out for Webb, Cunningham, McDonald and others.

I hear you. I think you're being unnecessarily harsh by calling him "a decent kick returner." He had special teams coaches considering kicking it out of bounds on kickoffs. Tony Dungy changed Indy's gameplan in the Super Bowl around dealing with Hester. And you can't just slice and dice st...
