Re: HOVG Class of 2016 Nominees

I just cast my ballot via email to Andy. This is my first year - is it typical to have 20 candidates on the ballot and have to vote for 10 (half)? I guess I wasn't expecting to have to vote for that many players, but I'm sure there must be logic behind it. Finally, what's the criteria to get in? Doe...

Re: Pro Football Reference

I'm having trouble finding college. For example, what college did Randolph go to? http://www.pro-football-reference.com/p ... ndCl20.htm I thought it used to be right at the top.

Re: Coffin Corner (May/June 2016 Vol 38; #3)

Thanks Ken and BD! I wasn't able to find anything on Poe/Ernst. My instinct is telling me the Ernst connection is more likely, but the gap is a bit large to be an older brother. Two football players at the same small college with the same last name would be a coincidence, but its not a really uncomm...

Coffin Corner (May/June 2016 Vol 38; #3)

I really enjoyed the new issue. Had some questions for the authors or other folks on the board: I. 1901 Quakers article (Ken’s article): 1. In the game against Lafayette college an “Ernst” is listed as RG. Could this be an older relative of Jack Ernst who went to the same school and played in the NF...

Re: 1934 NFL MVP Retroactive

I like history, so the 20s were a natural starting point, but once I got to the 30s the stories and the players just grabbed me - I would say my main interest is early NFL history so its not like I don't like the 20s - that decade is a close second. A couple things that put the 30s out in front for ...

Re: 1934 NFL MVP Retroactive

John, thanks for sharing - I was happy to see another one of these - reminds me why the 30s is my favorite decade.

Re: Two NFL Films-related things

I had it for two years on a cable promotion and I don't really miss it now that I downgraded. Like others have stated - "Total Access" seemed to be on constantly. It was nice to catch a "football life" occasionally, but it was such a long shot that anything might be on that I wan...

Re: I am sure I missed a few, esp. recent ones

Yeah, by 84, I don't think big ol' Pete was running 39 yards anywhere. He did have one nine yard run, but not for a TD - those were all short like John said.

Re: I am sure I missed a few, esp. recent ones

I remember the 12 TD Pete Johnson season (84). I think he had recently been traded to the Chargers for James Brooks - really turned out well for the Bengals as they essentially traded a back who was pretty much finished for one who would prove to have around 8 productive seasons for them. Johnson wa...
