Scratch this one. I incorrectly matched the attempt against the Packers schedule. Ken Pullis is correct, the 57-yard attempt was made by the Colts on 11-5-67.

Re: The 1979 Los Angeles Rams

As we can see here http://losangelesrams.org/about/statist ... dance.html, the Rams' home attendance dwindled every year following Chuck Knox's first season, hitting a 13-year low in 1979. Maybe that's what they were referring to.

Re: Alan Page to retire from Minnesota Supreme Court

I write about the law business in Minnesota and have written before about the mandatory retirement age for judges at the appellate and Supreme Court level. Most of them hate it.

Re: Rechichar to Dempsey

A couple courtesy of the Packers' media guide:

- 12-5-65: Fred Cox tried from 59 against the Packers.
- 11-12-67: Lou Groze (I presume) tried from 57 against the Packers (blocked).

Re: "NFL, Year One"

I'm pretty sure the author realizes that. I'm also pretty sure that the title less reflects his mindset than it does the simple fact that the merger divided the league's history in two and created the modern NFL that most current fans recognize. The book has been out for two years, BTW.

Or that he did. That's kinda how controversy works.

Re: 1970s Controversial Plays

A noteworthy one was Billy Ray Smith's phantom recovery of Duane Thomas's fumble in Super Bowl V. Since it was first and goal at the 1-yard line, Dallas almost certainly would have scored had the officials ruled (as the Cowboys insisted) that Dave Manders recovered the ball.

Re: Rift between Sterling Sharpe and Ron Wolf (1994)

If Sharpe hadn't hurt his neck, it's hard to imagine them not keeping him. He was a huge pill during his holdout prior to the 1994 season, but as they say, winning fixes everything. Sharpe's 1994 wasn't quite up to the record-setting pace of his previous two seasons, but he still had 94 catches and ...

Re: Players who played H.S., college, pro ball in same city

Most of Curly Lambeau's football career (player, coach, manager) was all in Green Bay with the exception of one year at Notre Dame. Lisle Blackbourn also coached nearby (at Lawrence University and Marquette) before coaching the Packers, although he never played in Green Bay. I believe the only post...

Re: Players who played H.S., college, pro ball in same city

Something tells me most franchises could claim at least a handful of these. For example, Milt Sunde, Mark Dusbabek, Noel Jenke, Doug Kingsriter and several other former Vikings played at the University of Minnesota and went to high school somewhere in the state. Former Vikings LB Pete Najarian playe...
