Re: Davis versus Bettis for HOF
Davis probably did have the best year ever in 1998. That said, in his three best seasons he finished 2nd, 2nd, and 1st in rushing. In Bettis' three best seasons, he finished 3rd, 3rd, and 2nd in rushing.

Re: 9-point win margin possible in overtime?
I didn't think they would blow the whistle in midplay. One of the only times I saw that was in the final 2 minutes of the Green Bay-Buffalo game. Rodgers was stripped of the ball, Eddie Lacy picked it up in the end zone and began a mad dash to get the ball out, but the refs blew the play dead. I was...

Re: 9-point win margin possible in overtime?
As soon as the defense (Team A) takes possession, the game is over. So there is no Int Return from within the field of play for an OT TD as you stated. If the Team B QB commits a turnover within his own end zone, either by fumble, or throws an interception, where the defense (Team A) gains possessi...

Re: Tom Bennett: The Pro Style (1976 book)
This particular book and The Pro Football Chronicle are my two favorite football books. I finally got a used copy of The Pro Football Chronicle off of Amazon-- I had thumbed through it in a library many years ago, but couldn't remember the title. Great stuff about the highlights and the oddities of...

Re: Cornell Green (Cowboy DB) Question
Are there any other non-kickers who played for ten years in the NFL but did not play college football? Big Daddy Lipscomb played service ball for the Marines in the early-50's, but he did not play college football. He had a 10-year NFL career. The Cowboys and Gil Brandt signed a number of players w...

Re: Historic catches that wouldn't be catches today
In consecutive Dallas-SF matchups in 1995 (including the 1994 NFC title game) the 49ers overwhelmed the Cowboys with an early scoring barrage, fueled by Dallas turnovers. In each game, Michael Irvin caught a pass, was immediately hit, and fumbled. In the NFC Championship, SF scored on the subsequent...

Re: Leslie O'Neal
What do you remember about this forgotten sack artist? Great technician, used hands and body control very well, had all the moves. Knee injury slowed him, but recovered. But was also not beloved by his coaches. The term "locke room lawyer" was applied to him. No idea if it was deserved or...

If I was guessing tonight who they will select I'd guess; Bettis, Brown, Dungy, Seau and Warner to go with Mick and both 'contributors' ... Who I'd probably pick (from the list of 15): Davis, Harrison, Pace, Seau and Shields. Yes on Tingelhoff and I'm not really big on having the 'contributors' cat...

Re: They Picked Up the Flag!
It's certainly very bothersome that one official thought it was face guarding, which is against the NCAA rules but not the NFL rules, although it used to be. I don't blame the mixed- crew factor for the non-call. I do blame that for the poor communication where they picked up the flag AFTER announc...
