Re: Falcons at Rams NFCCG, 1978

At first, I thought that Atlanta may pull off the upset (because the Rams were chokers back then). However, if they beat Dallas, there is a good chance that beating Dallas would have been their Super Bowl, and that they wouldn't have played well in LA. It makes me think of 1996, when the Jags beat D...

Re: Rank all Buffalo Bills playoff teams, #23 to #1

Then the Rams signed George Allen. Rosenbloom wanted Allen. Steve Rosenbloom and Klosterman wanted Bill Walsh. The old man got his way and that was a disaster. He began to spend like no tomorrow, signed Roman Gabriel who was washed. Traded premium picks for Eddie Brown. After Isiah Robertson threw ...

Re: Rank all Buffalo Bills playoff teams, #23 to #1

Good info John but I don't understand how Ralph Wilson could be upset by close playoff losses, this team hadn't done anything since a winning season in 1975.
This was the same guy that would go on to fire Bill Polian after three straight SB appearances (all losses, but that wasn't his fault).

Re: Rank all Buffalo Bills playoff teams, #23 to #1

The Knox team defenses were strong but Ferguson just wasn't good enough to take them further.
To be fair, Ferguson was injured in the 1980 playoffs against the Chargers. They had to use the backup for a time. If he was healthy, they may pull that out, and he could ride the defense to a SB title.

Re: Dallas VS San Diego, SBXIV (1979)

Some people believe the 79 Chargers simply overlooked the Oilers in the playoffs, especially without Campbell but the Oilers were tougher than the Chargers and had a great gameplay ... or knew the Chargers offensive signals, etc? Either way, from wk 9 in 1978 till the disappointing loss to Houston ...

Re: Dallas VS San Diego, SBXIV (1979)

Actually, I think the Chargers win this. The 1979 team seems more dominant to me. They put some whoopins on people that year (PIt, NO, Rams, Oak). In 1980 (even with Winslow and Muncie), they were kind of wishy-washy. Not only did they lose at Dallas, but they lost to a 6-10 Redskin team without Rig...

Re: '84 Broncos discussion

Steve Watson is a hugely underrated possession receiver from that era. Excellent hands, made a lot of important catches. People tend to forget just how good the AFC West was in those days - mid to late 80s. SD still had Fouts and Coryell, 3 receivers over 700 yards, PLUS Kellen Wnslow at TE, Chuck ...

Re: '80 Browns VS '88 Eagles

Lions maybe beating the Eagles in '80 (then...hosting Big D in the CCG) because Vikings giving them that game first three quarters in the 1980 divisional. Neat to think about, but I think Philly was simply "asleep" all along. They never started strong that whole entire season (countless g...

Re: '84 Broncos discussion

Miami would finish 12-4 in '85, winning their division, and Denver would be one of two 11-5 teams ever to miss the playoffs. Not sure if that game can be seen as an indicator as to what would have happened had they played the year prior in the AFCCG, but definitely a worthy mention! That was a good...

Re: 1994 Steelers vs. 1997 Steelers

At home

We all know KC was a terrible road team under the most overrated HC in NFL history
Actually, they were 5-3 on the road in 1997, which was solid (even though they didn't beat anyone on the road with a winning record).
