As far as I can determine, the 1933 Chicago Bears were the first to issue a championship ring to their players. A ring was not issued to team players again until 1948 when the Philadelphia Eagle players were issued a ring. Any thoughts on this regarding accuracy?

I have also been told that the 1962 Green Bay Packers did not receive a championship ring, but did receive a ring in 1961 when they beat the New York Giants.

There was an auction a few years ago with a '62 championship ring from Lew Anderson (Packer scout), but speculation is that it was a custom order. I have only heard of a watch for the players:

Like the '62 Packers, the 1929 Packers also received watches:

I remember watching an NFL Films Presents episode several years ago on the 1948/49 Eagles. If I recall correctly, the players had the option to purchase rings themselves for something like 50 dollars.

Which sounds inexpensive for Eagle players, but in 2014 dollars, it comes close to $500 for players making maybe the current equivalent of $45,000.

Believe it or not, the 1925 Pottsville Maroons had championship rings...sort of. They had a 50-year reunion in 1975, and Russ Zacko, the son of team manager Joe Zacko, had championship rings made for the players who were still living and attended the reunion. Before he died, he showed his to me. It looked like your typical Josten's college ring. Of course, it proclaimed the Pottsville Maroons as the 1925 NFL Champions, something only Pottsvillians still believe.

Those kinds of plays were expected."
