I found a photo of him in a uniform that closely resembles the 1936 NY Giants, something players would have worn on picture day in 1937, which is the year after Lombardi graduated.

It may be someone else, but his being from NY he may have signed or had a tryout . . .just wondering

The biographies that I have read on Lombardi have him wearing #40 at Fordham, and never playing for an NFL team.

That's what I've found as well. And him at least having a cup of coffee in the NFL would have been part of any biography, even if it was just a tryout. This is the photo I found and the uniform design is similar (if not exactly) to the 1936 NY Giants unis. Even the typeface for the numbers are a match.

It does not look like him as a high schooler, the number is 18, maybe it was from some All-star game. It just stuck me as odd.

He played with the Clippers in 1937, actually. In 1938 he played with the Brooklyn Eagles of the American Association.

In 1938 Lombardi was #11 with the Brooklyn Eagles. I don't know if this cover photo represents their game uniform or not - the interior photos have a variety of jerseys. Lombardi is in the line-up of a 1939 program as well, but still at #11

Lombardi also played for a team at the end of the 1936 season (Nov. 29) called the Fordham Collegians against the Bristol West Ends. In 1937 (Aug. 27) he played for the Eastern College All-Stars against the Philadelphia Eagles. And in 1941 he played for the Churchill Pros.
"It was a different game when I played.
When a player made a good play, he didn't jump up and down.
Those kinds of plays were expected."
