Re: Better squad, ’68 Raiders or ’69 Raiders?

I forgot to add one of the more impressive stats posted by the 1969 Oakland Raiders is opponents completed only 38.9% of their pass attempt against them. That has to be some kind of record for the SB era?

Re: 2019 15 Finalists

Flores and Coryell both among the finalists in the coaches category. I doubt both get in, which one gets your vote? Flores had 2 SB wins but Coryell's teams seemed to flame out in the postseason, especially in 1979 when many thought SD had a chance to unseat the Steelers. But I always had a soft spo...

Re: Better squad, ’68 Raiders or ’69 Raiders?

These are some minor points but the '68 Raiders were a little more well-balanced on offense while the '69 Raiders were full blown Darryl Lamonica "Mad Bomber" mode. They had very average rushing numbers but when you have 34 TD passes in that era (including one game where he had 6 TD passes...

Re: Patriots' drafted punters and kickers from late 70s-80s

How could anyone forget "Suitcase" Freddie Steinfort who filled the gap for awhile in 1983 after they released John Smith? The nickname came from his travels from team to team. A great kicker at Boston College, he had one really good season in Denver in 1980 but was never able to stay heal...

Re: "Pure Passer"

It's funny but I always thought they came up with the term "pure passer" just to describe what Sonny Jurgensen could do with a football. Back in the late 1960s NFL Films did a feature on the top QBs in the NFL and they featured Jurgensen making all kinds of throws including snapping the ba...

Chuck Bednarik's hit on Frank Gifford in 1960 that kept him out a whole season.

Re: Thoughts on '90 NYG@SF MNF and upcoming KC@Rams

The upcoming Chiefs-Rams prime time event will be the first MNF game I will watch from start to finish in over a decade. They are advertising it as a match up of Mahomes vs Gurley but IMO it is the Rams QB Jared Goff that may very well decide the game. The Chiefs secondary is horrid and if they load...
