AFL, NFL Super Bowl champs
AFL, NFL Super Bowl champs
I am trying to recall how many players won an AFL championship, an NFL championship before the merger and a Super Bowl.
I know Johnny Sample (59-59 Colts, 68Jets) won all three. I Know Weeb Ewbank did it as a coach (same teams as Sample).
Does anyone others?

Tobin Rote (1957 Lions, 1963 Chargers).

Ben Davidson came very close. He was on the Packers' 1961 champs (played all 14 games, plus the title game, but never started), and Oakland's 1967 AFL champs, and he played in the Super Bowl, but the Raiders lost to his original team. He almost got back to the Super Bowl several times after that, but the Raiders kept losing in the AFL or AFC championship game.

I totally forgot (or actually, probably didn't know) that Big Ben was on Lombardi's first championship team. Learn something new every day....Bob Gill wrote:Ben Davidson came very close. Only QB to do it, and each time it was a rout (59-14 and 51-10).SixtiesFan wrote:Still, it was a distinction.Lee Elder wrote:Yes, but no Super Bowl.SixtiesFan wrote:Tobin Rote (1957 Lions, 1963 Chargers).
